Drastus - Taphos LP (Black Hate Productions)
"Roars From The Old Serpent's Paradise", das Debut der Franzosen, liegt
mir noch sehr gut in Erinnerung, da legen sie mit einer Mehrfach-Split
sowie der dieser Tage veröffentlichten Mini-Scheibe schon wieder weitere
sehr obskure Eisen ins Feuer. Ob diese allerdings genauso unschlüssig
und umherirrend nach einer Identität suchen, erfahrt ihr jetzt. Nur
wenigen ist bis heute die Existenz Drastus' bekannt, schließlich gründeten
die Verantwortlichen eigens für ihr Hauptprojekt (sowie einigen Nebenbaustellen)
ein brandneues Subsub-Label, um auch ja alles unter Kontrolle zu haben.
Dass dieser Umstand für viele von Vorteil sein könnte, zeigt sich anhand
des meist schwer verdaulichen Materials, das uns aus den Lautsprechern
entgegen springt: Viele synthetische Einlagen (manchmal sogar ganze
Tracks davon), wenig richtige Arrangements, die von den üblichen Instrumenten
umgesetzt werden. "Taphos" hingegen legt wider Erwarten den Schwerpunkt
auf weitaus eingängigere, massiv erweiterte Songs, die, wie im Falle
"Flow Divine", überraschend zielgerichtet nach vorne prügeln, ohne dabei
allzu sehr auf die Synthese zu achten. Zwar gibt es noch zwei ausschließlich
künstlich erzeugte Eineinhalbminütler, diese dienen jedoch quasi als
Intro beziehungsweise Outro zum nächsten "vollwertigen" Stück. Verarbeitet
werden in jenen stark verzerrte, atmosphärisch jedoch passende, nach
wie vor äußerst finstere Collagen, die nebst rauschenden Gitarrenwänden
kraftvoll gespielte Drums (aus der Dose) sowie kehlige, dreckig verschwörende
Vocals beinhaltet. Dass man angesichts des Höllenschlund-Ambientes,
welches Drastus hier verbreiten wollen, orthodoxe Lyrik vom Stapel lässt,
dürften Fans dieser speziellen Sparte mit Wohlwollen aufnehmen und angesichts
des verwendeten Artworks kaum jemanden verwundern. Dafür klingt "Taphos"
umso griffiger und langlebiger, wenn auch die sehr kurzen Zwischenstücke
nicht wirklich nötig waren. Doch wozu gibt es Skip-Tasten?

"Roars From The Old Serpent's Paradise”, the debut of the frenchmen,
was saved in my mind with very good memories and with the releasing
of a multi-split as well as the these days promulgated mini-disc, they
put more obscure irons into the fire again. But if this one also searches
its identity in a totally irresolute & erratic way, you experience now.
Just a few souls know about the existence of Drastus until today, eventually
the persons in charge found specially for their main-project (as well
as some side-lots) a brand-new Subsub-label for having the total control.
That this case could be an advantage for many is shown by the mostly
indigestive material, what jumps against us out of the speakers: A lot
of synthetic charges (sometimes even whole tracks of it), few real arrangements,
which are transformed by the accepted instruments. On the other hand
“Taphos” puts the emphases onto much more catchy, massive advanced songs,
which, as in case “Flow Divine”, beat forward surprising goal-oriented,
without pay too much attention to the synthesis. Indeed there also are
two exclusive artificial cloned one-and-a-half-minuters, but they only
have got the abandonment to act as Intro or Outro for the next adequate
track. In yonder, brawny contorted, but atmospheric fitting, still gloomy
collages, which contains together with rustling guitar-walls, forceful
played drums as well as guttural, filthy conspiring vocals, are converted.
That they facing the hellish ambiance, which Drastus want to spread
around, launch orthodox lyric, fans of this special category might absorb
it with benevolence, what should be clear if you take look at the cover-art-work.
Therefore “Taphos” sounds more handy and more long-lasting, even if
the very short interfaces weren’t necessary. But what for we’ve got
skip-buttons?
